Cane Quest is not a race, it’s a rally
Vision Forward is proud to host Milwaukee’s first ever Cane Quest in partnership with the Braille Institute of America, Inc. to promote orientation and mobility skills among youth who are blind. Students (Scouts), grades 3rd through 6th, will complete various routes while successfully demonstrating their navigation skills throughout the competition.
Students are given auditory instructions and challenged to safely complete secret routes inside Vision Forward and outside using proper travel techniques and appropriate cane skills.
Participants are monitored at all times at the event by certified volunteers. Scouts are encouraged to have a family member as a guide, please see the below Scout Rules for details.
They are accompanied one-on-one by a trained ‘Shadow’ to ensure they stay safe on the route.
3rd – 6th graders (possible younger Scouts can register if O&M skills are appropriate) should have the following two forms completed by October 13, 2017.
