Paula’s Story
When Paula woke up from surgery for a benign brain tumor, her doctor asked, “What can you see?” Her answer was simple—and heartbreaking: “Nothing.” That was six years ago. Since then, Paula’s world has changed in ways she never imagined.
But with help from Vision Forward, she’s discovered a new path—one filled with hope, independence, and possibility.
After losing her sight, Paula and her husband, Paul, turned to Vision Forward for guidance.
Our social worker, Erica, helped them navigate the many programs available—from mobility training, which gave Paula confidence to move safely through her home and community, to technology training that opened doors to connection and independence.
With expert training from Vision Forward, Paula learned to use her laptop and phone for a variety of things including accessing email, podcasts and audiobooks. When she and Paul bought their home, Vision Forward helped organize it to support her independence. Perhaps most meaningful, Paula found a community through our support groups—a “family,” as she calls it—where she can talk with others who understand her journey.

Today, Paula continues to stay connected through Vision Forward’s technology programs
and TEC Connect webinars. This past year, she even used Meta Glasses—introduced to her at Vision Forward—to experience the artwork of the Vatican Museum in Rome through real-time descriptions. “It was something I never thought possible,” Paula shared.
Thank you for investing in Paula and others living with vision loss.
Together, with your support, we can positively change the lives of people of all ages who are blind or visually impaired.
