Welcome to Dining in the Dark!

We are honored to have you with us for this unique and eye-opening sensory experience. Dining is the main event, but the evening is really all about ability, tenacity and hope.

At Vision Forward, every day we have the privilege of witnessing the amazing accomplishments of people who are blind and visually impaired. It is their courage and patience, with support along the way, that propel them past the fears and frustrations of vision loss to a place of hope for a more accessible world.

Our mission is to make the journey a little easier, knowing that vision loss does not limit potential, nor does it determine fate.

Your support is vital. Through our partnership we can collectively ensure that children and adults with vision loss have access to the services they need to live and succeed in a highly visual world.

We hope your experience is truly enlightening . . .
because sometimes closing your eyes is the only way to really see.

Thank you,
Jacci Borchardt, CEO

Tips for Dining in the Dark

1. After you put on your mask your tendency may be to speak louder.   Use a normal speaking tone when talking with guests at your table.

2. Prior to receiving your food, orient yourself to your place setting to locate dishes, flatware and stemware. When locating items on the table, such as your wine glass, move your hand “low and slow.”  Place your napkin on your lap.

3. When food is presented, orient yourself to the food on the plate using the clock face method. For example, note that your entrée is located in the 3 o’clock position and the vegetable is located in the 9 o’clock position.

4. To help get the food on your fork, use your knife placed at the edge of the plate to push your food against with your fork.

5. Always return items such as your water glass or utensils to the same location so they can be more easily located.

6. Relax and enjoy!
