Presentations:
Looking Beyond the Eye Exam
Presenters: Dr. Heather Hinson, OD, Optometrist and Lauren Nelson, OTR, Certified Low Vision Therapist
If you’ve been diagnosed with macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, or another condition affecting your sight, you’re not alone—and there’s help available. In this session, our experienced low vision team will walk you through what happens during a low vision evaluation and how it differs from a regular eye exam. You’ll also learn about tools, strategies, and hands-on training that can make everyday tasks—like reading, taking medication, preparing meals, or staying safe at home—more manageable and less frustrating. This presentation is designed to provide practical information and hope for those adjusting to life with vision loss.
Empowering Independence with Technology
Presenters: Cory Ballard, CATIS, Director of Adult Vision Rehabilitation Services and Luke Scriven, CATIS, Assistive Technology Specialist
Today’s technology is opening new doors for people with vision loss. Whether you’re brand new to assistive devices or already using some tools, this session will introduce you to exciting innovations—including Meta Glasses, MirrorPad, and other accessible devices—that can help you stay independent. Discover how this technology can support everyday tasks like reading your mail, cooking safely, identifying products, and getting around your home or community with more confidence. The presentation is designed to be easy to follow and welcoming for all experience levels.
