Georgiann’s Comeback: Proving It’s Never Too Late to Learn Again

A Familiar Face Returns to Vision Forward

Georgiann first connected with Vision Forward in 2015. At the time, she was eager to learn how to navigate her computer using assistive technology, after losing her vision. With training and support, she mastered emailing, web browsing, and managing documents using a screen reader—skills that kept her independent and connected.

Life Changes—and So Did Her Technology

As the years passed, life circumstances changed, and Georgiann’s access to her computer and technology tools became limited. Eventually, she stopped using her devices altogether. But in 2024, she made a bold decision: vision loss wouldn’t stop her, she was ready to get back to it.

Starting Fresh with New Tools and Support

Knowing her skills and technology were out of date, Georgiann reached out to Vision Forward once again. With guidance from our assistive technology specialists, she began taking classes to refresh her knowledge—starting with keyboarding to rebuild speed and accuracy.

From there, she moved into using a screen reader called JAWS, learning to navigate her computer with confidence. Thanks to her past experience, her skills came back more quickly than expected.

Getting Set Up for Success at Home

With renewed motivation, Georgiann chose to invest in new technology. The Vision Forward Store helped her find the right computer, screen reader, and printer to meet her needs. Training continued on her own equipment, and we even assisted with setup at her home so she could get started without stress.

Building Confidence One Session at a Time

Today, Georgiann is making incredible progress. Her confidence is growing with every session, and she’s becoming more independent as she practices troubleshooting and exploring her computer on her own. Her curiosity and dedication are inspiring—not only to our staff but to others navigating vision loss.
