Isobel’s Story
From Isobel’s parents: “It’s hard to put into words the tremendous impact the Birth to 3 Program has had on our daughter, Isobel. We can certainly point to concrete achievements such as sitting up independently, transitioning from laying down to sitting and navigating a gait trainer independently. However the value of Isobel’s time in the program goes beyond those demonstrable skills. She had a dedicated team of truly amazing therapists who continued to push our daughter to unlock her full potential in a compassionate and gentle way. In addition to the tangible physical progress, Isobel has achieved in the past 18 months, she has also gained the confidence in her abilities that will allow her to continue to achieve her therapy goals in the future. While we are saddened to no longer have in home therapies with our friends, Sue, Tina and Kim, we at the same time are excited to start Isobel’s new chapter at school. We have total confidence that Isobel will succeed with this transition thanks to the skills the Birth to 3 Program has provided. We will forever be thankful and grateful for her time spent in this program.”
Over the past 10 months, we’ve had the joy of watching Isobel grow in so many amazing ways here at Vision Forward.
When our Teacher of the Visually Impaired, Tina Mekeel, first met Isobel, she was able to sit on her own for about 30 minutes at a time. She was just beginning to learn how to use her vision to explore—scanning her environment to find toys, pick them up, and interact with them.
From the very beginning, Isobel’s family has been a key part of her journey. Together, we teamed up to find everyday routines that would help her use her vision more effectively while also supporting her cognitive and physical development.
Thanks to her hard work, the support of her loving family, and the dedication of her team, Isobel is now getting ready for her next big adventure—starting school! While we’ll miss seeing her in our Birth to 3 Program, we’re so proud of everything she’s accomplished and excited to hear about all the new things she’ll continue to learn.
Isobel’s story is a beautiful reminder of what’s possible when we work together to support a child’s potential—one small step at a time.
