Recognizing White Cane Safety Day at Vision Forward

Vision Forward would like to thank Board of Directors member Pedro Guerrero and the City of Milwaukee Common Council for recognizing October 15, 2026, as White Cane Safety Day!
White Cane Safety Day recognizes the independence, confidence and achievements of people who are blind or have low vision. It also raises awareness about the importance of pedestrian safety, accessibility and creating communities where people with vision loss can navigate safely and independently.
The white cane is an important mobility tool that helps individuals detect obstacles, navigate their surroundings and travel with greater confidence. The day serves as a reminder for drivers, pedestrians and community members to be aware of white cane users, yield the right of way and help ensure our streets and sidewalks are safe and accessible for everyone.
At Vision Forward, we are proud to empower people of all ages with vision loss through rehabilitation services, education, adaptive technology and orientation and mobility training. We are grateful to Pedro Guerrero and the City of Milwaukee Common Council for helping bring awareness to the importance of white cane safety and independence in our community.
Together, we can build a more accessible and inclusive Milwaukee where everyone has the opportunity to move through the world safely and confidently.
