Jeb's Story

Returning to Learn, Growing to Lead
Jeb has been connected with Vision Forward for many years, but as his vision changed, he knew it was time to build on the skills he had learned in the past. After previously receiving assistive technology services, he returned for additional screen reader training to stay ahead of the evolving demands of his career.
When Jeb first began working with Vision Forward, he primarily accessed his computer using screen magnification. As his vision declined, however, he transitioned to relying on a screen reader to navigate digital information and complete everyday tasks.
Strengthening Skills for Professional Success
As a professor at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, Jeb depends on technology every day to teach, communicate, and manage administrative responsibilities. While he already had a strong foundation in using a screen reader, he wanted to become even more efficient and confident with the complex digital platforms required in higher education.
Working alongside Vision Forward’s assistive technology specialists, Jeb received individualized training focused on navigating systems such as Canvas, Workday, and other university-specific software. The goal wasn’t simply learning new commands—it was developing the confidence and efficiency needed to perform professional tasks independently.
A Positive Attitude Makes All the Difference
One of the qualities that stood out most throughout Jeb’s training was his determination to keep learning. He approached every session with a positive attitude, recognizing that there is always room to improve. His willingness to practice, ask questions, and honestly assess where he could strengthen his skills allowed him to make meaningful progress.
Jeb’s commitment to continuous learning demonstrates that vision loss doesn’t mean putting professional goals on hold. With the right training and support, it’s possible to adapt, grow, and continue thriving in a career.
Empowering Independence at Every Stage
Vision Forward’s assistive technology training isn’t only for people who are new to vision loss. As technology changes and vision evolves, many individuals benefit from returning for refresher training or learning new tools that support their changing needs.
Jeb’s journey is a reminder that investing in new skills can open doors to greater confidence, independence, and success—both in the workplace and beyond.
