Description

The explorē 8 with stand from HumanWare is a portable electronic video magnifier designed to provide clear, high-definition magnification for people with low vision or vision loss. With an 8-inch touchscreen, magnification up to 30X, two high-definition cameras, and a versatile foldable reading stand, the explorē 8 is designed for reading, writing, viewing photos, completing crafts, and handling everyday visual tasks.

The explorē 8 combines the portability of a handheld magnifier with the convenience of a hands-free reading stand. The stand allows the device to be positioned securely over documents and other materials, making extended reading and detailed tasks more comfortable.

Key Features

• Up to 30X Magnification: Enlarge documents, books, labels, photographs, and other materials from 2X to 30X.
• 8-Inch Touchscreen: The large IPS LCD touchscreen provides an expansive viewing area with a 1280 × 800 resolution.
• Two 21-Megapixel HD Cameras: One camera is designed for close-up viewing, while the second supports distance viewing.
• Built-In Reading Stand: The stand provides hands-free magnification for reading, writing, signing documents, and other tabletop activities.
• Foldable Stand: The reading stand folds for convenient storage and transportation.
• Autofocus: Autofocus helps keep text and objects clear while viewing.
• Customizable Viewing: Adjust preferred zoom, menu text size, color schemes, and lines or blinds to personalize the viewing experience.
• 20 Color Schemes: Choose from multiple color combinations to help make text and images easier to view.
• Image Gallery: Save images and access them later using the device’s image gallery.
• High-Resolution Video Output: Connect the explorē 8 to a compatible larger display.
• Long Battery Life: Provides approximately 4.5 to 7 hours of continuous use depending on how the device and stand lighting are used.

Dual-Camera Design

One of the standout features of the explorē 8 is its two 21-megapixel high-definition cameras. The near-viewing camera is designed for documents, books, newspapers, and other materials positioned close to the device, while the distance camera allows users to view objects farther away, such as signs and other details around them.

This dual-camera design gives the explorē 8 greater versatility for both close-up reading and distance viewing.

Hands-Free Reading With the Stand

The included foldable reading stand transforms the explorē 8 into a convenient tabletop magnifier. The stand keeps the device positioned over the reading material, allowing users to keep their hands free while reading, writing, signing papers, or working on detailed projects.

The stand is designed to remain stable on flat surfaces and can be folded when it is time to transport or store the device.

Comfortable Reading and Viewing

The explorē 8 features an 8-inch IPS LCD touchscreen with gesture controls. Users can customize the magnification, interface text size, color schemes, and reading aids such as lines and blinds to create a viewing experience suited to their needs.

HumanWare describes the explorē 8 as a compact device that combines a large screen with portability, making it suitable for use at home or while away from home.

Portable Design

Despite its large 8-inch screen, the explorē 8 is designed for portability. The device weighs approximately 1.3 pounds (580 grams) and measures approximately 8 × 6 × 0.94 inches. The included protective case and carry bag make it easier to transport the magnifier and stand.

Battery Life

The explorē 8 provides approximately 7 hours of continuous use on the device alone and approximately 4.5 hours when using the stand’s LED lighting, according to HumanWare’s current product specifications. The non-removable 6,700 mAh lithium-polymer battery takes approximately two hours to charge when the unit is turned off.
